Green Tea Supplements – Find Out What They Can Do For You

The benefit of green tea supplements has to do with their antioxidant content. A green tea supplement should list the amount of the extract or leaves that are included in the product and the amount of polyphenols and catechins that the extract provides.

The potency, as well as the purity, of green tea supplements varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, just as the plants vary in nature. The practices used by the farmers, as well as the richness of the soil causes this variance. In addition, the antioxidant content depends upon the age of the leaves and even the leaf’s position on the stem.

A company can only confirm the purity and potency by testing the raw ingredient. They should also test the final batch to insure that contamination did not occur during processing and that the potency remains high. A green tea supplement will only be beneficial if the manufacturer makes every effort to provide a high quality product.

Which is better? Drinking a bottle or taking green tea supplements? That is a question that has been heavily debated over the years.

On one side of the debate are the people that say we should be able to get all of the nutrients that we need by eating right and making healthy beverage selections. On the other side of the debate are health experts that feel it is impossible for anyone to get the nutrients that prevent age-related diseases simply by eating alone.

For years, the mainstream medical community said that the incidence of nutrient deficiency was rare in industrialized societies. But, those that treat the elderly are noticing an increasingly high incidence of deficiency in vitamin D, glutathione, carnosine and other nutrients, among the elderly.

Pediatricians have found that many children are vitamin D deficient, as well. A green tea supplement won’t address these nutrient deficiencies, but a multi-ingredient formula will.

One of the biggest advantages of taking a green tea supplement rather than drinking a bottle has to do with caffeine consumption. Some varieties of the tea have as much caffeine as black teas, although teas in general have less caffeine than coffee. Green tea supplements have only a small trace, if any, caffeine at all.

One of the health benefits that most people report after beginning supplementation is an increased feeling of alertness. But, it is the benefits that we cannot see or really notice that are most important. A daily green tea supplement may help prevent cancer by preventing free radical damage in the cells of the body.

All antioxidants help protect us from cancer and other age-related diseases. The best choice, in my opinion, is a multi-ingredient formula that contains lots of different antioxidants and other important nutrients. Let’s face it, we need as much help as we can get.

No matter how careful we are, we are exposed to cancer-causing chemicals everyday in the environment. Taking green tea supplements, along with other antioxidants, is a bit like health insurance. You might not need it, but it’s a good idea to have it.
